Make the Best Reading List Ever!

books

Everyone likes to read, even if it’s just a little bit, sometimes! (I mean, you reading this post is proof of that, right?)

As previously mentioned, I’m currently reading The Kingdom of Couches by Will Walker.

In talking about the Bible, operating manuals and complexity, Walker writes:

Nobody reads operating manuals for pleasure, because they tend to be boring. Brett gets the impression that some students we meet with find the Bible boring. They only read it because they are supposed to or because they need to find a solution of some sort. Very few read the Bible because they long to discover the depth of mystery that is God and man and relationship between the two.

Well mister Walker, call me a geek, but I like to read operating manuals! OK, so I don’t read them terribly often, but they can be fun; You can’t tell me I’m the only one who reads instruction booklets just in case I’ve missed out some exciting feature or easy way to achieve a certain result with the latest new gadget!

I’ve recently finished reading “Canon EOS 40D” and Flash Photography with Canon EOS Cameras (Not quite a manual as such, but a great 60-odd page article on flash photography!) See? Manuals can be exciting!

I’d like to hear what you’re reading this summer (or winter if you’re on that side of the world)! I’d also be keen to hear what the last operating manual that you enjoyed reading was!

I’m one of those crazy folks celebrating winter right now (although by “winter” I mean I’m wearing a sweater but it’s 80 degrees Farenheit here and I’ve got the sweater only because it’s nearly December and I like to get in the spirit).

Nevertheless, I’m almost finished with an amazing book: Facing your Giants by Max Lucado. Phenomenal. I’m reading it as a devotional, but it could work as a small group bible study too. Turns out, there are study questions at the end, so I’m going to re-read it and answer the questions.

For fun, I’m reading After Diana by Christopher Anderson because I’m one of those people that gets easily sucked into anything British. Also, Nora Ephron’s (of Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail fame) book “I feel bad about my neck and other thoughts on being a woman” is HYSTERICAL.

Don’t read manuals. Rob read’s them then tells me how to use it. I’m lazy that way.

Right now I’m reading “Strong Women Soft Hearts” by Paula Reinhart.

And at this moment, Dec 1, 3:22pm US eastern time I’m watching the championship college football game for my university’s division because my team, Virginia Tech is in it. We’re tied.

Well my job is to write instruction manuals and other stuff that people can actually want to read and can understand. So it goes without saying that I’m in your camp eh!

We should start a club for people who like instruction manuals. Being that you write them, you get my vote for president!
