I’ve decided to make good an idea that I’ve mentioned before: starting a food blog. Problem is, I need a name for it!
I had a couple of ideas, but nothing which I’ve settled on:
- Nothing Weird. I often see recipes on TV or in magazines and think “That’s Weird, who’d want to eat that?”. But then I do enjoy trying new things; inevitably I’ll end up posting a recipe that is a little weird. Probably not a good long-term name then.
- Messy Chef. You know, to describe my cooking style. Already taken though.
- food.digitalfishbowl.net. Functional, but a little boring.
Ideas?

Another verse I’ve found encouraging during this time of extended support raising is found in 2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV):
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Here’s what I’ve been learning from this:
- Similar to my last post, it is God who is able to make all grace abound. To abound means to be abundant, to overflow!
- Again, God is able to make this happen!
- One of the results of this (but not the end result) is having all sufficiency (this could also be translated “contentment”), that is, in all things all the time!
- And the end result: so that I may abound in every good work (or “have an abundance for every good deed” – NAS).
- I note that Paul writes these things in the context of talking about generosity. When money is tight, my natural reaction is to hold onto it tightly. But there’s a difference between being wise with money (not using it frivolously) and being selfish with it. Therefore, knowing that God’s grace is sufficient for me, I still need to have a generous attitude. It helps to remember who the money I have actually belongs to.
For other CCC staff, or those who have had to raise money for similar sorts of things, what are some things that God has taught you through times of support raising?

I’m currently reading: Wicked, Into the Storm (for something a bit different), Spirit Controlled Temperament (I plan to do a review on this at some point) and Psalms.
What are you reading at the moment?

Happy Chinese New Year! Simply because I’m way too late to say “Happy New Year”, and only a little late for the Chinese New Year… The summer has been a busy one for me (hence this being the first post of the year), but I plan plenty of posts over the coming weeks. I look forward to seeing posts on your blog also (that’s a very unsubtle hint to those of you who post even less frequently than I do!)

An update about what’s been happening with car related stuff:
- Although I didn’t post it on here, I had problems with the insurance company regarding the settlement for my car. I got a call today, and after consideration (read: three weeks of waiting), the good news is that they will pay out the full insured amount for the car!
- In the mean time, I was given another car (from someone I don’t even know)! A slight downgrade from the ‘96 Rover I had, I’m now driving an ‘88 Toyota Corona.
- My current line of thinking is that I will not use the insurance money to buy a new car, but stick with the Corona for now. The insurance money will go into my staff ministry account, which I’ll use so that I can be on campus as soon as it starts, giving me some time to raise the monthly financial support that I need. This means I can get a good start to the year.
That’s about it for now.

Quite literally. Right before the New Year, I saw a Wordpress update was available, and decided to install it. All went well until I went to delete the old files that were no longer needed. And then I typed something ever so slightly wrong into the command line… an extra asterisk ensured that the contents of the public_html/ directory on my website disappeared.
After a restored backup, everything should be back to normal. I would have wished you a happy new year before now, but without a working blog that wasn’t really possible. Anyway, happy new year!

I’ve taken some time to update and add to several parts of this site. The about page has been updated, and contact information separated into it’s own page finally.
I’ve also taken the time to integrate the online version of my presentation about work — Serving With Student Life — into this site. Expect more updates on this in the near future (for now it has just been a transfer of information with minor changes, from the previously hosted-elsewhere version).

I’ve taken the time to modify this site so that posts now include tags. A tag cloud is available in the right-hand column. I may modify things slightly as time goes on, depending on how this ends up working out.
For anyone interested, two pages I found useful for getting this up and running were:
How to add tags to your current theme
Wordpress tag cloud (Wordpress Codex)
